^ Oh, man...sorry to hear she didn't get the news she wanted to hear. I think you guys played it absolutely the right way, though. Even with the 220+ AI, getting in without support is a longshot.
Once she has a chance to put it in perspective - she'll probably realize what a great opportunity she has to attend Ivy 2.

yes, disappointing and will take some time to regroup but a very good result overall and she should be proud of her accomplishments. hopefully next year you will be posting to another concerned parent how your dear d didn't get 1st choice and how it turned out to be best thing because she is so happy and couldn't imagine being anywhere else....best of luck!

what Varska and Lioness4 said. Really sorry to hear that your D was disappointed. I hope she loves her choice #2. You should both be so proud to have such good options.

what Varska, Lioness4, Carla, and everyone said! I am hoping you will post in a year and tell us what a relief it was that your D ended up with her second choice! I absolutely agree with her decision...it is right for HER, obviously. Everyone's risk tolerance is different. Sounds like #2 also wanted her more, which is a big, big, big plus. When she calls the coach, she will be making him/her very happy. Congratulations on having such great choices and being so successful at sports and academics both.

MNFats,
I'm sorry it didn't work out as your D hoped. But she is headed to a place that wants her.....and that is a really really good thing. If there is one thing I've learned in 5 years of researching college athletics (specifically baseball), it is vastly better to be in a sports program & school that wants you and will do anything to see you become successful. Your D was blessed to have a 2nd choice that many people never get to consider. If anything I would expect this to strengthen her resolve, as I've seen this situation play out with some of my son's teammates. Good luck!

Thank you all for your comments and support! We are so grateful for the college confidential community - you all have helped so much through this process! #2 is an amazing option as well and yes hopefully some day she will be thankful that is where she went.

What varska, lioness, Carla, Hobbiton and fenway said.
Minnesotafats, congratulations to your D for succesfully navigating the process. Having a LL from one of her top choice schools will be very comforting to her as her friends are stressing as they wait for their admissions results.
As we all know, the recruiting/selection process for student/athletes is confusing, stressful, crazy, often unpredictable, and sometimes seemingly irrational. With your help, she's handled it well.

Update: #2 welcomed D with open arms. Application was reviewed by Admissions in less than 3 days and Likely letter is in the mail! My D is very happy the process is over and has embraced #2 as her choice. Ivy league and creative financing here we come!

minnesotafats--not to be a downer but even with a LL admission isn't 100%. Just keep that in mind and have a back up plan.

A LL is about as solid as it gets - the things that would get it rescinded are the same things that would get a regular admission rescinded.
Relax and enjoy - you've earned it!
