XC/track. How to manage recruitment?

My S is a junior and the Ivies are quite appealing to him. Met the Dartmouth coach on a visit last summer. Brown has sent a recruiting letter. Can anyone who has been through this give me a sense of what next summer will be like? Other parents have told us that he will be recruited hard. How do we prepare ourselves and him for this? In particular, it feels to me like a lot of this commitment with Ivies is DONE by the time November rolls around with likely letters and the such.

Interested in Dartmouth, Princeton, Brown

He looks like he's in a great place academically to be recruited. A lot will depend on how this year goes in track. His times right now are good, but Ivy track is getting more and more competitive. If he can get in the low 1:50's and ~4:15 in the 1600, I think he'll generate interest. (last year H had incoming freshmen with a 1:48 800m and a 9:09 3200m)
As for managing the process - it will be up to him to reach out to the coaches. Email head coaches, fill out recruiting questionnaires, etc. Take some unofficial visits if you can and meet the coaches.
You're correct that by this time next year it'll be the home stretch of recruiting.
