DIII Soccer B Teams

Do coaches at schools like Middlebury and Williams that have B or JV soccer teams support the applications of players the coaches think could play on those teams but not Varsity? Are all such players seen as having at least the potential for Varsity after a year? How does a player end up on one of these teams? What other schools do they play? Would be interested in hearing about actual experience on a B team.

Wondering about this at other D3 schools, also. Do they only field Varsity teams, now?
Back in the dark ages, the D3 school I went to had varsity and JV teams.

I know that Tufts has a JV women's soccer team, and that walk-ons can make the team. I can imagine some players who want to be recruited will be invited to walk on to JV, but it seems unlikely this would be a boost in admissions. That's just personal speculation, but I've never heard of someone getting a tip to go onto a JV team.
