My grades/SAT scores aren't amazing compared to most kids at the schools I'm looking at.

I probably fall around the 25-40 percentile range for the schools I'm looking at.

However I've been involved in Varisty cross country and track since 9th grade, and have done it every year.


Do my chances go up the admission officers know that I'm going to be playing a sport for the school?

And I also hear about coaches tipping the admission officers to admit a student if the coach likes the student a lot....how do coaches do this?

Coaches help greatly with the admissions process if they are interested in actively recruiting an athlete. See if your times would be competitive at the schools in which you are interested and call the coach.

...and yes, you can have lower gpa/test scores if you are a recruited athlete.

Email the coaches with your times, awards, and championships. They will respond if you are a desireable recruit.
