My son has been recruited by some of the Ivy League teams for football. I really do not know how much interest they have. He has also been told Air Force will make him an offer for Lacrosse.
He has been officially accepted at the Naval Academy contingent upon getting the nomination. He should not ha ve a problem getting that because he is already accepted.

The question is this. I am pretty sure he wants to play football at one of two Ivy League schools. Navy has not come at him for sports, all academic. I know hw likes Navy and most likely would have signed on the dotted line if he were recruited for either Football or Lacrosse. The level of play between the Ivies and Navy is quite different. Navy is a much higher level, and my son may be able to walk-on to possibly play later while at the Academy. Should we approach the Ivy League coaches and tell them that he has an offer from Navy? In all honesty he does have an offer, just not for athletics.

Has he been invited to either Ivy for an official visit? I assume he's a senior?

I think it would be a big mistake to mislead a coach.

He has not been invited yet, and he is a senior. The more I thought about it I agree, that it would not be good to mislead a coach. If it is meant to be it will. Thank you. Although, now that I think about, these coaches mislead kids all the time. You would think with the amount of mail and email my son gets, he is at the top of their list. I am not going to do it anyway. Thanks again.

I'd suggest your son call the coaches at the Ivy's he's interested in and ask to what degree they're able to support his application. He can certainly honestly say he's also considering an appt to the Naval Academy, but he'd love to attend ???? and would like to know where he stands. Our experience was that most coaches were honest and pretty forthcoming if asked the direct questions. Good luck!

Lippy, if your son is interested in playing for an Ivy and you've been getting mail but not phone calls, your son should consider giving the coach a call. I don't know much about Ivy football, but in other Ivy sports, the coaches are looking for kids who want and can compete in the Ivy academic pool and understand and can live with zero sports scholarships. If that's your kid, he should be doing a bit of self-promotion, and soon.

I thought Ivy League football recruiting is about done by now. If you haven't been invited to a visit then I wouldn't count on it. There's always that extra player or two added, but most good senior football players know exactly where they are playing next year. (well, the ones I know)

It is not done now. It finishes in mid-November even December. He has been invited, we were actually at a Princeton game recently at an invitation of the coaches. We met with them beforehand and were told they had only given out a few offers out of 30. I would rather see him go to Navy, I think he can walk-on and eventually play.
