| Auburn's atmosphere is a big reason people love it so much here. At other schools, it's about being a "nation" of fans, but at Auburn, it's about us all being part of the Auburn Family. It's wonderful, because you can go anywhere in the world and when you see someone wearing Auburn gear, you know that you can give them a "War Eagle!" and feel like you belong. I've had it happen to me in St Louis at the Arch, New York City, and even in Paris, France.
I grew up an Auburn fan, so I always wanted to go here from the time I was a little kid, but Auburn is actually a good school for many subjects. I don't know much about Clemson or FSU (I've never been to either, although I did recently meet some very nice people from FSU at my study abroad program this summer in Paris), but I hated Tuscaloosa and the vibe at UA. Of course, I may be biased, but the city itself seemed pretty ghetto and the school was very "you must be Greek or your social life will be nonexistant" (from the experience of people I know who go there, very few who aren't Greek actually have much of a life outside school, this includes my half-brother and a girl from my HS). Plus everyone I've ever met who is a Bama football fan is incredibly obnoxious about it and still rave on and on about how great their team was 30 years ago. (Auburn's a better school academically, anyway.)
UGA is a good school academically (higher ranked than Auburn overall, I believe, although we have some programs that are better than theirs) and the campus/town is cool so this is a good choice for school too. Of course, I think our football team is better than theirs, but that doesn't REALLY have anything to do with picking a school. (their fans seemed to be mixed- some are total jerks while others are perfectly nice, so I imagine the student body overall is similar). |
