Engineering Degrees

Auburn offers some really great scholarships to out of state students. My daughter is interested in some of the engineering degrees. Problem is, the scholarships are only for 4 years and I hear many engineering degrees can take 5 years. We really don't want to pay for a full year of out of state tuition. Can some engineering majors let me know how long it takes to earn a degree in engineering?

The full tuition scholarships pay for a max of 120 credit hours and 8 semesters. Many of the engineering degrees require 128 to 134, and sometimes more, credit hours. I believe auburn tries to structure it so that these extra credits are in the summer of either the 2nd or 3rd year, not an entire extra year.

Of course, Auburn is great about giving out extra scholarships. It's not uncommon for a student with good grades to pick up an extra $2-$10K in various scholarships handed out from and threw Auburn, after being enrolled into the school.

I would recommend checking out the Engineering department's website. Most of Auburn's departments have scholarships you can earn once you are there that can help you out. I will also be an OOS, and from what I can gather the Scholarship department will try their hardest to match you with all the aid you can get to help you become a Tiger.

Have you also looked into taking some local summer classes at a community college, or opting out of core classes? I don't know if that's included in the credit hours you discussed, but it might allow you to get rid of some of the cost, or atleast diminish it.
