Congratulations AU, but AU was only ahead of UA by one point in the overall scoring for this year. The larger difference in the rankings comes from ties. Last year UA was two points ahead of AU, so I expect these rankings will go back and forth for the foreseeable future.

Alabama, in trying to grow, has lowered thier standards for now. Auburn continues to get the students who might go to Georgia or Tech but find Auburn closer to home or closer to the kind of campus they want. Also, they get those who just miss getting into Tech or Auburn but who have well above average test scores.

Granny,

Alabama has not lowered their standards. But I would agree that it has not increased its standards enough. UA actually decreased its acceptance rate from 64 to 60 per cent of applicants while AU increased its acceptance rate from 69 to 71 per cent of applicants. However, because UA had such a huge jump in applications for last fall semester, this decrease in the acceptance rate was not enough to prevent slight slippage in the avg. ACT and SAT scores. This fall UA will reach its goal of 28,000 and will increase its standards accordingly.
