| Auburn hotels
Heading to Auburn tomorrow for a visit and possibly catch the game. Any ideas on where and how far from Auburn I may be able to get a hotel? We are coming from the southwest (Pensacola fl).

I would check with the Fairfield Inn and sister hotels/motels in Columbus, GA - about 30-35 miles from Auburn. All booked in Auburn/Opelika area already for tomorrow night. Or in Montgomery,AL about 46 miles away. Depends on your route home.

We will be going towards Montgomery. Are there some areas that are better than others?

Unfortunately, I do not know about better areas than others in Montgomery. I'm east of Auburn in metro Atlanta.

We've stayed twice in the Fairfield Inn in Opelika and recommend it.
My D attends Ohio State so we are familiar with the concept of hotels filling up for home games, but we were still surprised by the chart at the front desk at the Fairfield Inn. It showed deposit and cancellation information for each of the home games individually! Basically, you pay the day you reserve the Alabama Crimson Tide game and there will be no refunds.
off-topic, sorry.

Hoping to hear about your visit to Auburn, Navarre!
Thanks, Mary, for the Fairfield rec. We are Marriott Rewards members, and hope to use/gain points during college visits.

Montegut. I woulnt recomend the saturday visit because there isn't much information available then. We went on a sat but didn't even go on the tour. My daughter had aleady been there once on an Eagle day and was quite impressed.
We just enjoyed walking around the campus and taking in the vibe of campus during a game day. I then gave her a street level education on how to scalp tickets to the game. Lol
That night we went to the game.
The next day we drove around the town of Auburn a little and had a BBQ lunch. What a nice quiet town with friendly people.

So, Navarre, what hotel did you wind up staying at?
And, you wouldn't happen to remember where you ate barbecue? Since living in Memphis for Katrina, we're addicted.
Now, since you've been to both Bama and Auburn during football season, which do you think is more of a football school? At the risk of causing an argument, I ask this question because son does not want a football school, and if there is too much rah-rah football at open houses, he's going to turn tail and run.

We stayed at the Red Roof Inn in Montgomery. The hotel was old and worn down. I would not recomend. If you go during a game day, it's really hard to get a hotel near campus.
We ate at a BBQ joint called Country BBQ. It was just ok. The real value was talking with the waitress, who is pre vet at auburn.
It seems to me, both schools live for football. Both towns, the whole state, lives for football. Your son will not escape a whole lot of rah rah at these schools.

If son doesn't want rah rah football, I would suggest staying away from SEC and many ACC schools. If he wants that level of academics or better, I would suggest Emory in Atlanta.
