UAB vs. Auburn?

Which one is better for preparing you for business?

Don't know about business, but son got a letter today offering him a 9K Blazer Elite scholarship. We are OOS, but son has a 32 ACT, 4.1 GPA, and is a NMSF.

That's a lot less than the free ride Auburn is giving him.

But, UAB does have his major, BME, he loves the school, but we have not visited Auburn yet.

I think the business and engineering department are in the same building at UAB. No separate building for specific schools.

I will say this, though, we loved Birmingham. It seems to be a thriving city, so I wouldn't be surprised if there would be a lot of business internship opportunities. However, one cannot discount the strong alumni connections and national reputation that Auburn has.

Best to visit both schools and see which one is the best fit for you.

If your son becomes a NMF than the award from Alabama will increase accordingly and be similar to Auburn's NMF scholarship. Alabama probably just offered him an initial scholarship based on his ACT and GPA and are waiting for him to be named a NMF.

I'm sure both schools are about the same in terms of business since they are public institutions. Just from living in Birmingham the past 10 years (AU grad), I can tell you that UAB is probably one of the best up and coming universities in the country. I know my cousin is part of the UAB EMSAP or Early Medical School Acceptance Program with a BME major. Basically it allows the student to have a guaranteed spot in the UAB Medical School Program which is one of only two in the state (the other is in south Alabama). I believe she has to maintain a certain GPA and score well on the MCAT. A nice incentive to earn your bachelor's from UAB. Plus the campus has grown dramatically in the last 10 years. Probably the best thing going for the city of Birmingham.

Also, I've noticed that the med school has been taking more and more undergraduates from UAB. Definitely something every parent should check out.

EMSAP takes something like 10 people a year.
