2006/2007 Auditions

I just found out the audition dates for next year...

For the November audition date there is a Music Theatre Workshop the day before (friday the 10th) for the auditioners. Also that weekend our fall Musical will be running which is Side Show.

For all the auditions we try to have a masterclass for the auditioners to watch. This year we had Pam Myers, Tara Rubin Casting and others come in. We've added an audition date this year becuase this year there were waiting lists for mot of the audition dates so make sure you get your apps in early!

I would also like to point out that BW has been increasing the size of it's program. We now look to yield about 12-16 people in each class, instead of the 10-12 that is indicated on the FAQ website.

Does that start with 2006 or 2007 class?

It actually started with my class... there are currently 16 in the freshmen class. I'm not sure how many are in next years class, there won't be a definate number till may... ill try to find out then and post the number.

yes it is, so I recomend to audition as early as possible.

can someone give me a rundown of the audition process at bw? is there an interview? a group dance session? if so is this session difficult? does it place any weight on acceptance? is there acceptance rate pretty multi ethnic? is a campus tour included with the audition?

Prettyladie, I can't tell you anything about acceptance rates or what weight is placed on various areas in the acceptance process, but my son was thrilled when he was accepted at BW, and the acceptance came fairly soon after the audition in Nov.

I CAN tell you that BW may have had the very best audition day that we attended. During the auditions, they had special sessions and tours for parents (which many schools do), and they also fed the parents a most incredible lunch (which seemed rare in our experience). The lunch was probably what made me remember that day with such fondness! The parents were definitely kept separate from the students during the day.

I don't remember the students having an interview, unless it was just part of the song / monologue audition time, which I think often happens at most schools. It seems that they were divided into groups with a student leader in each group that made sure they got to everything on time. They played piano (which is for placement only, I think). They had assigned times to audition with songs and monologues. There was a master class (I won't get her name right, but I think Pam Myer, who was in the original Sondheim Company and sang Another Hundred People, and this was the musical BW was producing that weekend) with the students that the auditioning students also attended. They were given box lunches to eat before the master class. Then, it seems that the dance audition was last. Yes, it was a group dance that then was performed in small groups, I believe. I don't remember how hard my son said it was compared to other dance auditions, but I do think they consider the dance as part of the acceptance.

I believe he danced at 5 of his auditions, and I also seem to remember hearing that the dance auditions at Syracuse and Point Park were more advanced or perhaps harder. I'm assuming BW was somewhere in the middle of "hard" dance auditions.

Oh - Prettyladie - I think the campus tour that day was mainly for the parents, but a few students went along if it didn't conflict with their audition time-slots. I don't think the students otherwise had much time on audition day to tour. Maybe you could plan to tour the day before or the day after, if you are only making one trip. At the audition, you probably see the conservatory building and the dance building (which was in the building with the theatres) pretty well. The campus is not that big, so you could just walk around on your own. We had visited the campus during my son's junior year for a tour and a nice info session with Anita Evans, who is very helpful.

Hi Prettyladie6317, I'm currently a Sophomore MT major at BW. Everything that Ericsmom said was basicly true. The only thing I would correct is the dance portion. It really doesn't really affect your acceptance. We have people in the program who range from amazing dancers, to people who struggle with it a lot. So don't sweat that part too much. just go in and have fun with it. If you have any other questions you can PM me.

I visited the campus, and I loved it.

I am going to be a senior this year. My boyfriend just graduated this past year and he is attending BW in the fall for sports management. Now, don't get any ideas; I am not looking there because he is going there (it's a perk!), but I heard that they had such a great musical theatre program, and they accept more than like, 3 girls a year.

But I am still quite nervous for the auditions?!

I'd like to say I have somewhat of an edge in musical theatre with all my dance experience (I have danced at professional schools for 14 years), and I don't think my acting is too shabby either. I haven't had like, professional, classical voice training, though; all my teachers have been local (but great!).

I dunno...we'll see, I guess.

Anyone else really nervous for auditions this year?!?

Thank you all so much for giving me the rundown! i'm not auditioning until january 20 but i'm still so nervous! i've finally stopped having nightmares about it but i'm still a complete wreck but i imagine you all know how i'm feeling!

Hey-
I am going to be auditioning that November weekend (wow, after reading so many people´s posts saying that they were auditioning on such and such date, this is my first time posting that news; I´m so nervous and excited!). I´ll be there for the masterclass as well so if anyone knows who will be the clinician, I´d love to know. I´m planning on going to see Side Show, so if any of y´all are in it, let me know. Also, if anyone knows they´ll be there auditioning that weekend, PM me, too.
