BW News

I'm just going to start a new thread with news of things going on at BW throughout the year. I'd add on as information becomes available.

The program is most definatly expanding. There are currently 57 majors throughout all four years. From now on it seems that there will be around 12-16 in each class. There are now 5 audition dates this year instead of 4.

The Music Theatre program was recently rewarded with a 100,000 endowment which will go towards funding for things such as the senior showcase to publicity for the school. There is also hope of more endowments coming through in the future, as the new president of the college is known for his support of the arts.

The program should no longer be refered to as being unbalanced. Two acting classes have been added first semester sophomore year and second semester junior year. Those two classes will be in addition to two semesters of acting that is taken through the theatre department. The two new classes have taken on the name of "acting bootcamp" so they are not to be taken lighty. they will include on camera work as well. The classes are being taught by Scott Platte, a highly regarded actor in the Cleveland area. He recieved his MFA in acting from FSU, more info on him can be found here http://www.bw.edu/academics/theatre/...ate/index.html

More news of graduates. Dominic Roberts('04) has been cast in the upcoming Broadway production of Mary Poppins. Also Jill Paice('02)(who was recently seen as Laura Fairlie in The Woman in White on Broaway) is playing opposite of David Hyde Pierce in the New Kander and Ebb show Curtains currently in LA and is now just looking for a theatre in NY. http://www.playbill.com/news/article/101297.html

The program is growing at an incredible rate and it should definatly be looked at by everyone here. I update with more exciting news later!

Curtains! Has found a Theatre on Broadway and is scheduled for a March 22 opening. Jill Paice ('02) stars opposite David Hyde Pierce! There's a picture or them on the front of Playbill.com!

Looking forward to seeing this show! A friend saw it at the Ahmanson and loved it. We saw Jill Paice in London in '05 in WIW. Her performance was excellent, although the show itself was awful. She is a very talented young lady and has participated in so many readings and workshops without going on to the actual productions, I'm happy to hear that she'll be continuing with Curtains! to Broadway.

OK, We just had our Spring Semester Majors meeting this week and there's a lot of big news. First off, Next years fall musical will be Follies. Although thats not set in stone, I'm pretty sure it won't change. And starting next year, we will now be doing a Spring Rock/Pop Musical with a small cast (12 or less). The show will open the last weekend of classes then the next weekend will transfer to Playhouse Square, the theatre complex that houses all the broadway tours that come to Cleveland and the regional theatre Great Lakes Theatre Festival. This is 99% confirmed as of now, it hopefully won't change. Next semester we will have a new Full Time Music Theater faculty who will be teaching many of the new acting classes being added to the curiculum, such as on camera work and ear prompter. And for all of you auditioning within the next month and a half, The master classes for those dates are as follows...

January 20, 2007 12:15 pm – Dunja Vitolic of Tara Rubin Casting
January 27, 2007 12:15 pm – [title of show] Cast and Music Director
February 3, 2007 12:15 pm – Eric Woodall of Tara Rubin Cassting
February 17, 2007 12:15 pm – Don Birge (agent)

I will be working the January 20th audition as well. Looking forward to meeting some of you.

~Tim

This is exciting!! I'm auditioning @ BW on January 27.

So for the the new Spring Pop/Rock musical... I assume that would be like Aida, Rent, Wicked, etc? Can't think of others...? sounds like a cool idea!

Thanks for posting that - such a cool article! I've watched him perform since he was in high school. (I used teach near where he grew up.)

Tim, Thanks so much for the link, as I missed most of the show and didn't see her part.

Was Kate in BW's Company last year 2005 in fall? She looks like one of the girlfriends in that show who had a funny bedroom scene. Please let me know if she is the same one.

I know you all are proud!

Heres a fun clip of Kyle Post ('06) who is currently in Rent (and will be going on for Roger this coming weekend if any of you are in the city) singing at a benefit this past holiday. My favorite part is how his mic breaks in the middle of the song but he just keeps going!
