B-W Music Theatre Workshop

Yesterday we received a flyer for B-W's musical theatre workshop on Friday, November 10th, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. I'm sure those of you auditioning on Nov 11th are already aware of this event. But I thought it was interesting that the workshop appears to be open to high school Juniors as well as Seniors. This is something I wish we'd discovered last year to help us better prepare for this journey.

Perhaps BWMT09 or another B-W insider can provide additional details on the workshop. You can register online here.

A quick reply since I have a lesson in 15 minutes. I never did the workshop when I was in High school. But from what I know will be happening is that it's kind of run like a masterclass (which you will also experience the day of your audition). First two current students (2 sophomores this year) will be coached on a song by Vicky, then I think the high schoolers get to go up and work with Vicky as well. This is a rare opportunity to get exposure with Vicky and possibly even work with her. You don't even have to be auditioning the next day either, so If you can make it definatly go. You can also see Side Show afterwards if you'd like. PM with other questions

My D went to this last year the day before her audition and was very glad she did. She seemed to get alot out of it and since this was one of her first auditions, spending the day before there help 'break the ice' so to speak. But as said, you do not need to be auditioning the next day to attend.

Okay, this is going to seem really sort of silly but online and in the pamphlet they sent out, it said that you should have a classical piece prepared. This was referring to voice and instruments only, right? I mean, do I need to have an art song ready or can I sing a musical theatre piece? And should it be something other than what I'm preparing to audtion with?

No, you will definatly be singing a MT piece. I'm not sure if you have to have a different song then the ones your auditioning with, but it is a good idea to bring a couple of prepaired songs to sing.
