I'm a freshman at Bard and I would say that you have a great chance of being admitted to Bard. Essays, Extracurriculars, Teacher Recs., and Grades are the most important things. When I was applying, admissions said that they place most weight on your essays. They said they like essays that reveal what is important and passionate to a candidate. For instance, I wrote two essays, one on the death penalty and the other on music. They especially like it when students take chances and act boldly. Let me know how things go. Bard is an amazing college, I've learned so much, both inside and outside the classroom, since I've been here. Good Luck!

Hey...that's great that you like Bard so much. I've just recently decided to apply and the more I learn about the school, the more I like it. I like the fact that they place more weight on essays, extracurriculars, etc than test scores and numbers. I think my essays might be the strongest pieces of my application so I hope this works well for me!

I'm really excited about the Conservatory of Music at Bard, and the mandatory double-degree program there. I've applied (except for an incomplete supplement). My stats:
GPA: 3.97
SAT: 1450 (800 V, 650 M), SAT II: 800 Fr, 780 WR, 600 M IIC
In Tennessee.
ECs: Music is the most important thing in my life. It's not really an EC, since I'm applying for a pre-professional music degree at the Con. Also hiking, teaching music lessons, honor council and big brother program at school, reading to disadvantaged preschoolers.
My common app essay is ok, but my supplemental essay-- assuming I ever finish it!-- should be really good. I'm doing the argument question.

I did the typical/atypical day question...I think it came out pretty well, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I want to pursue a major in film, Bard is supposedly good for that.

cherubetry, can you tell me your stats when you applied? I'd love to get an idea whether or not I could get in.. its my dream school. Could i see some test scores and gpa and what not as well? It would be really cool if you could send a sample of one of your essays - but i understand if you dont have one anymore. Thanks!

I had about a 3.4 at a very competitive private school in Minneapolis. I did not submit my SAT I scores, but I submitted my SAT II scores: LIT: 700, MATH 1C(I think that's what the test was called): 630, and Writing: 700. I did alot of EC's in High School. I was the editor of our literary magazine, I had 2 leading roles in our Musicals and Plays and several supporting roles. I directed "A Midsummer Night's Dream" my senior year. I also was President of Peer Helpers, and Model UN. I also went to Interlochen Arts Camp for 2 summers, and travelled to Italy to study opera for one summer. I also did NATS and All-State, so music was my biggest thing. Any people applying to the conservatory? I'm really excited for the conservatory students to come!! We need more classical musicians and fans!

I don't think I have my essays saved on this computer, because my parents bought me a new comp. for college. Oh, and I also did IDP, so I got to meet with admissions, one-on-one, to discuss my essay, which I'm sure helped a lot. I highly recommend IDP...but I don't know how much longer it will exist at Bard since they are recieving increasingly more applications each year (they recieved 5,000 application this year!).

Last year, I remember I looked through the livejournals of students attending the schools I was considering. I learned more about what life was actually like there, aside from the glossy perspectives of the brouchures and college guides.

Wow, you have impressive stats! I don't have one thing that I can call my "thing," I've pretty much spread myself throughout a few things when it comes to my ECs. I did start up a community service organization at my school but I don't know how much that will actually help me. Thanks for your post, it was very helpful.

My SAT 1:440(V) 800(M)and SAT2 :MATH2 ,PH ,and CH are all800.
actually i dont know whether should i send my SAT1 score.

I don't think you can specify which SAT scores to send. They send them all. If you have taken the SAT I, it will automatically be sent along with the SATII scores. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
