We dont have GPAs in India but ive got high grades (in the top 2% of the class)

I applied as a transfer student also for the DSS scholarship. I also applied to Bowdoin, Bates, and Hampshire. I got into Bates a while ago....which is awesome because they only accepted 7% of there transfer applicants. To anyone looking at this site and getting caught up in numbers (SAT, GPA, Class rank...) let me say this. Many colleges are beginning to recognize the lack of subjectivity and personality within standardized test and objective quantitative evaluation. (Especially places like BARD!) Bowdoin does not require SAT's and they are rank 7th among top LAC's. My point is that for future applicants....really show the admissions who you are, call them a lot, go talk to professors, pick one person in the admissions staff and call them often, write about who you are, what you can bring to the campus, and most important that YOU want to learn. I got into Bates, a wonderful, highly ranked, respected college, without submitting SAT's or a class rank.....and I got in as a transfer....only about 7-10% of us were accepted! It was because I showed that I wanted to learn and was motivated to educate myself. I also got to know the transfer admissions officer, and she knew me by first name (always be respectful and call them Mr. /Ms ..., not their first name until they tell you otherwise) Anyway I got an 1120 on my SAT's and that is not at all a fair representation of my intelligence or academic potential. To future applicants....if you numbers are low....you can still do it....just show them that you really want to learn. And if you get rejected it is because it was not the right school for you...or you can try again. If you truly are motivated and you show it, the schools that care about individuality will see it. So don't give up!

hey

since youve been to the campus alot can you tell me how long it would take and approximately how much it would cost to travel from bard to nyc

It is about 115 miles to NYC. If you were to drive, you can cross the river and go down the NY state thruway. It should take about 2 hours. I think Hudson, NY is the closest train station, it is about 20 minutes north of Bard. From there you can take a train directlly into the city. The train also take about 2 hours and is a beautiful ride. it cost about $35...I am not sure about buses. Buses I am sure would be cheaper and I bet there are ways to get discounts on both the train and bus. I would not be suprised if Bard had a cheap way of getting students to the city...like a discount bus.
Anyway..its about 2 hours
