hi bard perspectives, do you want to discuss your topic for bard supplement here? which one did you choose to write?

I choose the topic 3 which is "Write an essay defending the role and place of the arts, especially those forms that are not commercial in our society. In answering this question, feel free to focus on one particular art form." However a little bit confused with the word "defend". I mean the art form i'm gonna discuss is not popular and commercial apparently, but it's not criticised by others. I'm attempting to talk about my understanding for the art form while prob. not tending to "defend" it. is that okay?

I always look at these essay questions as being up for interpretation, and that's the inherent "beauty" in them. That being said, the fourth word in the assignment is "defending".

I don't think it has to be "criticised" first in order for you to defend it.

May I ask what the art form is so I may get a better handle?

Thx heyalb, i apologize for typing "defend" instead of "defending" carelessly.
Sure, my topic generally is the non-commercial cinema. I would make a comparision for several this kind of films. I didn't mean I have to criticise firstly but I prob. would describe the non-commercial situation and artistic value for this art form. What I'm concerning here is that actually I am praising, not defending this art form while aware that why it is not popular and commercial.
what about you?

goback, you didn't type anything carelessly! I was just trying to show that they actually want you to defend your position, rather than merely interpreting the essay any way you want.

I think you have a great idea, and praising (as opposed to "defending") fits into the category of interpretation, IMHO.

I am a parent, not an applicant, so I don't have an art form to defend! I just love all the essay topics and enjoy analyzing the wording.

Yeah, I love bard supplemental topic a lot. It's so special, just like the characteritic of bard. Okay, I have the idea in mind and don't worry anymore about my theme now. thx!

they will argue with the points that you make in you essay in an interview to see if you can support it...it was fun to be challenged

I wasn't challenged... but then again I think I talked more than my admissions counsellor. Talking about my passions got me fired up to the extent at which I was orally presenting a new essay to my admissions counsellor. All that she really said about my essay was that it was "very personal and well done". I think that if you make the topic your own and draw in personal experience then you have a really good essay because, altough they want to see creativity and awareness, they also want to see YOU and see the way this topic relates to YOU individually.

I submitted a graded paper. It was a paper I wrote for AP Euro last year on the Economic Policies employed by European monarchs to finance warfare. I got a 100 and it has nice comments.

I submitted a really long paragraph-style homework assignment from SUPA biology last year (I mean, eight pages of long-answer questions, since I didn't have a graded paper on hand and it shows my writing/coherence just as well). The best part was that my teacher corrected it in crayon, and I had little MS paint drawings in with my responses. I thought it would be a bit different.

Thanks gobackto2005, I was a little worried that it would be too much, but I talked to my Euro teacher and he pushed me into sending it. It was a really hard topic to write about and a little difficult to follow without background knowledge so I'm not sure how it will go over. I wish I could have set up an interview, but it's too late (I applied EA) and I was too busy.

btw, will they talk about/argue the content of the essay in an interview? If so, that would be awesome,lol~ anyone here has done an interview already? I just set up my interview in Jan. It seems that the interview is more informative than selective though. correct me if I am wrong.
