admitted students day

What percentage of the kids who are going to Bard go to Admitted Students Day? And if you have visited Bard a couple of times and applied IDP... is it worth it? My son is resisting it, since it seems to be the typical stuff, the tour, talk about students groups, etc. Any good arguments out there?

My d has already visited Bard twice: once in August when it was quiet on a campus tour, and a second time for a half-day for their IDP. We live too far for her to visit a 3rd time, though if we lived close by, she would probably go to their accepted day program, if anything to gain more information to help with her decision.

If you know you're going to attend, I can't think of a more relaxing way to network and get to know others who may attend or have, in fact, already sent in their deposit.

No pressure, no classes.

Sure, it's the typical stuff. What's not to like??

I'm going just because I want to meet some potential future classmates and see as much of the school as I possibly can before I make a decision...that, and I haven't been there in the Spring before. I've visited twice: once in junior year for a tour, and last November for IDP.

I'm going. I want to meet (possible) future Bardians, especially since my brother actually met his future roommate at an Admitted Students Day (although that was at Binghamton), as well as hang out my brother (who's a sophomore transfer at Bard). I've been to Bard 4 times and can't wait to go back.

I'll be there! I've been there already but I really love it there and my mom never got to see it so it should be interesting. The Q&A with Botstein sounds awesome.

Botstein is easily one of the coolest people one could ever talk to.

D and I were there for the latter part of Accepted Day (had troubles with train connections in NJ!). But it was well worth catching the Q&A session with Mr. Botstein. He epitomizes everything about Bard and its philosophy. Bard is a terrific place to get an education and this school is very high on my d's final list!

the "yes" moment

S and my husband and I were there for the first half of admitted students day. S had a huge cold and bronchitis, so was resistent to going. However we went up, he talked to a faculty member in the Physics dept, saw the dorms, met a kid from Oklahoma who planned the same major as him (comp. sci), and said, "As soon as I smelled the air, I said 'yes' this is where I want to be." He was tired, so we left before the student life panel or Botstein, but we heard Leon answer questions for 30 families in November when our S applied immediate decision process-it was fabulous. So, there is a stamp on the envelope. It gets mailed tomorrow. The loathesome college process is finally over.

^^ morvoren, if you had heard Botstein's presentation (which was actually a Q & A with the audience), you would have FEDEX'ed the decision. The guy is part pointy-headed intellectual, part feet-on-the-ground realist, part stand-up comedian. He received a standing ovation at the end.

Does anyone know how long Botstein is committed to Bard? That is, how long is his contract as president with the college?

^^ He's been there 35 years. Methinks the board will let him say a few more.
