Some schools give students their usernames and passwords in May or June, upon their committing to attend. Having an @Bard.edu address and using it would be a cool way right off the bat to begin to feel connected to your new community. Plus, it would let friends and family become used to the way they'll be reaching you for the next four years.
It's too bad Bard makes students wait. What's the upside?
