published novelist, and poet
editor-in-chief of school newspaper
managed/hosted a 2 week camp - creative writing for elementary kids
taught english to kids in india over summer

music:
chorus/acapella club (3 years +)
president/founder of chorus/acapella club
all state chorus soph/junior year
performed solos at a retirement home monthly
performed songs at epcot, disney for their candlelight processional
selected to be in the choir for school musical (freshman year)
selected to be lead in musical (soph/junior years)

non writing/music related ecs:
Harvard Model UN

volunteered: 500 hours
museum of discovery & science
an aid for the after-school program for the kids in elementary school
medical center
big brother big sister
funded my own charity benefited for children who cannot afford music instruments/raised thousands of $s!

jobs:
hostess at a restaurant over breaks
subway waiter

interned:
at a local opera company

summers
interlochen arts camp (2 summers)
julliard pre-college for voice

Please know I am only a parent...that being said, I think you have an excellent shot! You seem to have two passions or strengths that are a good "fit" for Barnard: Your writing and your music. Barnard is well known for producing excellent writers, and of course you could pursue music to whatever degree you chose just living in NYC (not to mention the affiliation that Barnard has with Juliard, although I understand that is pretty difficult to deal with...or get into?? You would need to check on that).

Any way, I would emphasize what a perfect fit Barnard is for the pursuit of both of your passions in your admissions packet...

Your application will be very strong, especially if you follow CMM's sdvice on your essays.

thanks everyone!

i really hope i get in !

i was deciding between yale ed or barnard ed, but i'm going with barnard as I think it is a much better fit for me.
