Pronunciation?

How is Barnard actually pronounced? I say it with the nar part sounding similiar to that of Narnia. I hear people who pronounce it like Barnerd. I've heard people say it both ways, however, what is the actual pronunciation?

We (from Georgia) started out pronouncing it as you do, with both syllables equally emphasized (and sounding like "Barnyard" without the "y", unfortunately!)

Now that my daughter attends, we find that most do say it more like "Barnerd" with the emphasis on the first syllable, not the second. Certainly my daughter says it that way, and now we do as well.

I pronounce it BAR-nard, but my grandfather insisted on calling it "Bernard" (ber-NARD) like the man's name.

hahaha.. I had the same bugging question.. xD

And I was so nervous, because I had my interview, and I wasn't sure how to pronounce Barnard. Luckily, my interviewer said "Barnard" before I did, and I just went with her pronounciation..

She said, 'BAR-nerd'.. stress on first half.

This is a funny thread I say BAR-nerd, my dad says Bar-nahrd. We live in Georgia, except my dad is from Texas and I am from Los Angeles, so that's why our pronunciations differ.

BAR-nerd, unless you're being funny and say bah-nahhhd.
i've not heard a student or professor here say it bar-NARD, although that is how my parents say it.

barnyard... UGH

I applied ED and my boyfriend insists on calling it barnYard every time we talk about it.

He thinks it's cute; I think it's annoying.

Grr.
