| 550/5000 is much better than 70/1800. someone posted 70/1800 on the NYU thread, which inevitable led to a lot of people freaking out. i didn't think that number could be right. 550/5000 sounds much better, although not too much.
nothing from either colleges today. i suppose we should receive decisions within the next week? meanwhile i'm expecting rejection from both NYU and barnard and pondering whether or not to attend urochester. |

| I need some serious insight.
I found out I was rejected Friday
(3.9 college gpa at good private school in NC, 3.9 weighted in hs on seven point scale, editor in chief of hs paper, president of german club, founder of darfur awareness club, sunday school teacher, key club secretary/membership chair, 2010 sat, no sat IIs, you get the picture.)
In college I write for the paper, I'm an intern on the Clinton campaign, church group, secretary of college democrats, service learning involvement, haven't gotten any B's yet.
My essays, in truth, were awesome. I could not have made them any better. Recs should have been glowing. So, suffice it to say, I was really trying to think of what may have been the deal breaker for me. I assumed it was HS grades, since I have 3 Cs and more Bs than the average applicant. However, I was on a 7 point scale in high school.
I called my high school to make sure they had send out the form with course offerings as well as grading scale along with my transcript. They did not. They insisted I was supposed to request it.
Did Barnard have anyway of knowing I was on a 7 point scale? Because on a ten point scale, I would not have Cs. My personality is such that I would probably not allow myself to get below an 80 in a class. But three times, I did get between an 80 and 85, which earned me a C. Also, a fair amount of my Bs were 90-92 range. Again, I'm not certain Barnard had any way of knowing this. I was not contacted by their office to send in this information along with course listings from my high school, which insisted this information was not sent.
To what extent do you all think I should investigate this? I just would hate to have been rejected if Barnard wasn't given adequate information on the nature of my high school transcript.
Thank you all, good luck with everything! Regardless of whether or not I get this sorted out, I will be applying to Barnard again in the fall. |

| I think you should contact them about it. Tell them that your high school made an error and that the grades on your transcripts that read C's should be B's due to the grading system of your school. That explanations are supposed to be sent out regarding this, but were not in your case due to a clerical error. |

| MayDub, you should definitely discuss this with someone in admissions!
Also, thanks Swong :-).
Have any other transfer admits received aid packages yet? I am paranoid about financial aid since the tuition this year is about as much as my mom's income. |

| My daughter heard on May 17 and was accepted. So it shows that you can be among the last group of replies and still be accepted.
Now she has to decide whether to go. She visited several times when she was a senior in high school and loved it. (She just completed her freshman year in college.) However, now she has made friends and plans at her current school and is reluctant to change. But she has not been challenged academically at her current school.
Barnard has given her two weeks to make a decision. So we will not have long to wait to find out where she is going next year. |

| How exciting, Penndad, that she has this choice to make. I am glad she has made good friends/connections at her present school, and wish her luck in making this choice. I am assured, though, that she will do very well regardless of her decision. Let us know what happens! |

| Worried about chances, Please respond. Dear Forum members,
I am applying to Barnard College as a junior for the Spring 09 semester. My gpa sucks (2.95) because in the past two years I have received mostly Bs three As and five Cs. And the past three years have been heinous for me. I intend to retake the C classes.
I have great essays, letters of recommendation, and one leadership position (held 1 1/2 years). Do I have a shot? What can I do to improve? Is there any insider information you guys could provide?
Regards,
lnfa78 |

| Infa78, I do hope others with more knowledge of transfer stats at Barnard respond, but I did not want to have your post "ignored":
I think you know what you need to do to improve your chances for admission into Barnard as a transfer, and that is to improve your GPA. You said that the past three years have been "heinous" for you. How will your being at Barnard mitigate whatever made it so bad for you? I think you need to consider that and if there is some specific issue, hopefully you can explain that. However, I believe that Barnard will be looking for transfer candidates who have contributed significantly to their original schools and who are likely to be successful with the rigorous academic demands at Barnard. Your grades so far do not necessarily suggest that without some significant factors you have not shared with us.
I guess what I am saying is, nobody can say you do or do not have a "chance" at being admitted to Barnard. Your chances will be much, much better, though, with strong grades going in. I can almost promise you that Barnard will not be "easier" than your present school....
Any more experienced voices than mine out there? I sure hope so! |

Yes, according to the Barnard admissions website, SATs or ACTs are required for transfer applicants. |
