Hey everyone,

I have a friend who is interested in applying to Barnard as a transfer. She is at a little known public university, and did poorly her first semester. For her to be competitive she needs to retake those classes over the summer and then apply after that. Her standardized test scores are just below the average at Barnard.

Is it looked poorly upon if one spends more time at a previous institution?

From the Barnard website:

"A student who has completed 24-60 credits at another institution is considered a transfer applicant. If you anticipate completing fewer than 24 credits, you MUST apply as a first-year student. The number of transfer credits accepted by Barnard will be determined by the Office of the Registrar and students will be notified of their credit status at the time of admission."

So, as long as she stays under those 60 credits, the amount of time won't make her ineligible. Will the new grades erase the lower one's, though?

Actually, I'd just like to add that according to the Barnard Transfer application, students with more than 60 credits can still apply, but only 60 credits may be granted transfer credit. Sorry!

So if you apply after about 1 year at another college, then you have to apply as a first year? Will you get to transfer over your credits?
