First Year Classes

A couple quuestions:
When will we get to choose classes for the first semester? Is there a list of classes that freshman can take?
I know we will all take First Year English and Seminar, but are there more writing/English classes we can enroll in the first semester?
Thanks for any info!!

At some point between late June and early July (but don't hold me to that), you should be getting a guide to your first year at Barnard. In it, there is a short list of classes which are recommended to freshmen. Shortly after that, you should be able to register for classes, though you won't receive your program until the fall. As a heads up, you can take classes that aren't in that book, but you can't sign up for them in advance (at least, we couldn't last year). There is plenty to choose from; we're actually starting to register next week, so all of the Fall classes are up. Check Barnard's course catalogue online, or (my personal favorite) the Columbia University pencilbook.

As for English classes, there are a lot, and you can take most of them as a freshmen (there are a few which are reserved for juniors, seniors or majors). Barnard has an amazing English department; you won't be disappointed!
