Delusional?

Hi, I haven't really posted here before, but I have definitely been lurking and you all have been such a help in the admissions process in applying Early Decision to Barnard.

I feel really stupid posting this, but since it's literally a few days until decisions are released, I keep finding myself at a point where, no matter how much I love, love, love, love, LOVE Barnard, I think I'm delusional for applying there.

I'm from a small state nowhere near either coast and I go to a small school that is literally in the middle of nowhere. I'm 9/165 in my class, I have a 3.81 GPA unweighted, and I take all the hardest classes that I can and I do well. My strengths are English and Foreign Languages (I take two and am fluent in one) and I love to write (I was this close to hooking an agent for my first novel). I'm involved in about five million things and I have tons of leadership positions (Pres of NHS, HOBY ambassador, Class Officer, etc.).

I'm just really bad at taking tests. My combined SAT was 1850 (660 C, 640 W, 550 M) which is absolutely nowhere near Barnard standards, and my SAT IIs were not atrocious (690 Lit, 660 Spanish). I also made the mistake of submitting my not-so-great AP scores, which I'm not sure they'll even look at because the formal scores were never sent to Barnard.

The thing is, I really love Barnard. My essays and recs were amazing (even though my essay was really, really long because I had no one to help me), I made sure that I showed them how passionate I am about the school, and I applied ED, which is unheard of at my school where 99.9% of graduates go to in-state school, hoping that it would give me an edge.

It's so hard because all my friends and family are saying, "Of course you'll get in", when I'm not sure they really understand how high the Barnard standards are. While I might be the big fish at my school, that doesn't really count for much when my school is such a little fish.

Any others out there who are doubting themselves right now and can give me tips to cope with it? They would be very, very much appreciated!

P.S. Thanks for letting me vent because I'm not sure anyone truly understands how passionate about Barnard we can be more than the cc girls

I absolutely do not think you are "delusional". You sound like an excellent candidate for Barnard admission. Hang in there...this will all work out!
