Bates College or NYU GSP?

I'm an international student accepted to bates and nyu gsp.

Bates has offered me 20K financial aids, which means I still have to pay around 30K.

On the other nyu gsp allows me to take my first year in london, and costs around 60K.

Money-wise Bates looks like a much better choice.

Another thing to take into consideration is the fact that you will be doing GSP which, in my understanding, is a two year program that then, if you obtain a certain gpa, will allow you to enter NYU.

If you compare the two schools, Bates and NYU, they are very much different. I like to think that the more urban a school is the less the student body will be connected and, conversely, the less urban a school is the more likely students will then act as a community.

NYU attracts people not so much because of the school itself but because of the location of the school. If living in Manhattan, in the village, is what you want then go for NYU.

Bates attracts people because students want to go to the school (obviously Lewiston is not a big draw for people). At Bates you will have a great amount of intimacy with professors that you will not get at NYU.

The final decision is up to you...

my recommendation is that you do not hurt yourself financially.

If finances are not an issue for you, you should look into what career you want to pursue a degree in law, i would probably suggest Bates, because of its outstanding debate team.
if you want to do something in science/business, NYU is the better way to go. at least IMO.

Went to Bates

Lousy winters, short summers. No name recognition in the real world and a wicked grading curve. I graduated with a 2.8 and was in the top half of my class. Go to a state school, get a better package, and get a degree with some name recognition.

Wet to Bates cont

Still there was a WSJ (Wall Street Journal) Article that listed Bates as a top 50 school for getting into top grad schools. BUT NYU was ranked higher I think. Find the article sourced on Wikipedia. I, personally, would not go into debt for undergrad. You want to target a high GPA and get into a good grad school. NYU definitely has more moxie there. All undergrad courses are basically the same so your study in science or biz will not vary too much.

Best of all, go to a place like the University of Vermont like my friend did, It was his last choice in schooling. He graduated with a 4.0 and went to NYU law.
