I think Bates would be a reach.

I agree; Your grades just aren't high enough; I'm not sensing passion here-but you never know-a good interview can go a long way.

uh "not sensing passion"?
like you can tell that from reading text...don't make assumptions about someone that you don't know

actually i think that this website is complete bs for me.
it's filled without pretentious overachievers who think that you need a 4.0 to get into any college in the country. my cum gpa is a 3.3 and i got accepted to bard college and cornell, both with 25% acceptance, so obviously just having a 4.0 and a pocketprotector doesn't get you into college and chancing people based on numbers is bull. colleges actually DO look at the real person that they're admitting.

if you don't like this website so much, why'd you post here. you were asking people for opinions, and honestly, they're right. Your grades are pretty low. It doesn't mean you won't get in, b/c you have so much community service, but don't get ****ed when people answer you honestly.

i posted here, because i thought i would get good responses, not responses like, "I'm not sensing passion"
my grades are not "pretty low" 3.4 average is above a b+ average, and last i checked that wasn't low. just because i don't have a 4.0 because i dont spend every waking moment doing schoolwork and because i have a social life, does not mean that i have low grades. the top tier colleges that i have already gotten accepted to seem to agree with me too, so suck it

not going to lie, i go to bates and your attitude makes you sound like, well, not someone who would fit in here...learn to take some constructive criticism and best of luck in the admissions process...

mattman13: Although the GPA may appear low to some it depends alot on the types of classes that you have taken. Are you a solid AP student? An IB student? Are you challanging yourself with many of the hardest courses at your high school? How does your high school grade? These are all things that will be looked at when applying.
D was accepted ED1 to Bates. She is in the high B low A range for grades -- not a 4.0 but she is also a full diploma IB student, 3 season varsity athlete and volunteers. SATs weren't the greatest. She did better on the ACTs and she submitted those. Another factor in her favor was that no one in the last 6 years had applied from her HS. Bates is not a common school for people in our area to apply to.
You mention that your interview went well. That and your essays will be factored in highly.
Can't always just look at the numbers. For her this was considered a reach school but she was accepted and is looking forward to attending in the fall.

p.s.
rochestermom is the kind of person who i like: the kind who gives constructive criticism as opposed to saying, "you're not gonna get in", or, "i'm not sensing passion", or, "your grades suck". So thank you very much rochestermom.

mattman13, its not a friendship chat club, so people can be blunt here. Personally, I like this. Its like, face the facts! here.
About your chances, I know academics are a strong factor in getting accepted or rejected but your essays, ECs, references, interview, work experiences and stuff can make a huge difference. So, be optimistic and don't let a couple of peoples' remarks discourage. Be confident! |
