what to wear?

I'm an incoming freshman who's beginning to get my belongings together for college. My linens arrived yesterday and I printed off the list of "Things to Bring" from the Bates website.

My main concern at this point is clothes. I try to avoid wearing pants whenever possible; I prefer skirts and dresses. I just find them more comfortable. I plan on buying a bunch of different colored leggings to go underneath and boots from Minnetonka (such as: http://www.moccasinsales.com/minneto...mens_boots.htm). I also have rain boots, rain coats, and jackets, although I'm not certain they're heavy enough to truly protect me from Maine winters. Do any current Batesies, alums, parents, or posters from schools with climates similar to Maine have advice as to what to wear? Thanks so much!

I would advise hitting up LL Bean and making a wonderful investment in a pair of bean boots. yes, they're ugly, but isn't all winter gear? you will be trudging through snow/mud/muck...and it will be cold. I'd get a heavy jacket as well.

I'd get used to wearing pants, at least occasionally! On those super cold Maine days you'll be glad to have your legs covered! (Like two layers. Leggings are awesome, but I doubt they'll keep you warm enough all winter...)

Hoodie/Coat combo. That was my bread and butter during the winter months. You really have to sacrifice fashion for comfort. Heavy Bates hoodie with a ski jacket worn over it. The Combo kept me VERY warm.
