Would I Fit in at Bates?

I sort of get the vibe that Bates is kind of Jock/Outdoorsy school...I like the school a lot but I really am not a die hard hiker/kayaker/etc. or an athletics person by any means! I know you can find people in your niche but I don't want to be a minority on campus bc of this!

Bates is known for a long egalitarian history, is one of the first interracial and co-ed schools in the country(pre-civil war), and there are no campus organizations that everyone can't belong to. I was by no stretch of the imagination a jock, and had a great time there.I was involved with film, Woman's awareness, and the Gay-Straight Alliance. I majored in physics but took tons of humanities, and ended up in med school...They also have lots of artsy stuff, and their debate team is legendary.

Cllgecrazy1020 I am currently a freshman at Bates. At first, I thought everyone was going to be the outdoor type, yet that isn't the case at all. Don't get me wrong there is a large population of students that love the outdoors and are very liberal but there are students with all different types of ambitions here. One can't simply put a stereotype on Bates students as jocks and outdoorsy kids. I love it here, because the students are intelligent and down to earth. If you want an academic challenge and a stress-free environment Bates is the place for you. Please message me if you have any questions!
