Money, Money, Money

Is Baylor's tuition and fees affecting your decision to go to school there? Or if you're already attending, did it affect your decision to go? I got the financial aid package and it's not what I expected. It gives me about $27,000 out of its estimated $40,000 for the Spring and Fall semesters. I guess you could categorize me as coming from a "low income" family, so I still won't be able to afford the rest of the money.

So you'd have to take out about $13,000 a year (not assuming tuition increases) in private loans? That'd be at least $52,000 (yikes!), but most likely much more, as tuition seems to jump a couple thousand dollars every year. College Board also states avg. indebtedness for Baylor at around $33,000.

I don't know what you're other options are, but that's mighty expensive. And sorry to hear about Tufts.

Francium - have you talked with Baylor's financial aid people? They may be willing to make an adjustment, especially if something's changed in your family's situation, i.e. employment, illness, etc. They reconsidered my daughter's aid package because last year's income included some one-time bonuses. You should let them know that their offered package doesn't make it possible for you to attend.

According to the fafsa, was your EFC $13K?

My EFC in the Fafsa was 0 -many of my friends say that they should have offered me more. I was actually considering calling the financial aid department from school tomorrow, since I get home after the fin-aid's working hours, but I'm kind of afraid they'll start making excuses and saying that's all they could do. However, thanks for the tip -it makes me feel more confident about calling them tomorrow!

They definitely should have given you more; you should have confidence calling them. Please update and let me know how things went.

Is anyone out there taking out private loans to attend Baylor? If I decide to go there I am afraid that is what I would have to do...
