social life at Bennington

I have visited the town of Bennington a number of times. It has a few movie theaters and a great Mexican restaurant - - none of which was particularly close to campus.

What does the school offer in terms of on-campus recreational programs (frequency, variety, etc)? And how does the 2:1 female:male ration affect dating?

The town of Bennington has a few good restaurants, and people also go up to Manchester and down to Williamstown, MA (both about 20 minutes away) for more variety. Truthfully, during the first couple of years, there is not as much impetus to leave campus all that often. There is always something going on. Earlier in the week, at night, it tends to be more educational things, lectures, discussions, gallery openings, movies, etc. Later in the week there are also movies, plays, small and large parties, dances, etc. We have several annual traditions as well: Swalloween-the Halloween party, Rollerama-roller skating on a giant dance floor, Snow ball-winter formal, Sunfest-lots of bands come, and Prom-self explanatory.
As a Senior, more of my friends have cars and we do tend to go off campus more, to eat dinner, go to bars, go in to Albany to the mall, etc.

Aside from entertainment, the college also has many things one can become involved in: Student groups such as:Student Council, the newspaper, environmental groups, and an outdoors activity group, just to name a few.

Dating can be tricky. The ratio definitely makes good looking boys very popular. There are long term relationships, hook-ups, etc. The whole range. People also often seem to have boyfriends and girlfriends at other schools, or whom they met during Field Work Term.

To sum it up: there are plenty of things to do here, but I do wish there were more hot guys to do them with!

Social fit is an important aspect of college life. Are males so scarce that a rather shy girl who is interested in dating would be wise to consider a school w/ more equal numbers of males and female?

Because of the shortage of males, do girls feel more pressure to hook-up?

Also, I noticed from another thread that Bennington students can cross register at Williams. Do the schools provide some sort of transportation?
