ive been wondering what the merits of attending calso really are???
i mean, besides having to pay for it and the stay,trip, etc..., would it make a difference in enrollment

btw, ive read it provides priority enrollment and blah blah blah but seriously, WHAT ELSE do we get???????

advise from current students who attended calso previously is highly appreciated

Yes, it does actually make a big difference in enrollment. I attended the 2nd CALSO date and was disappointed to find that many of my courses were nearly full. You also get a terrific meal or two, a tour of the campus, a personal CALSO advisor to ask questions, and much more. However, I must agree that $200+ is a bit too much to charge.

You should attend and so should at least one of your parents (another $200.) You need an orientation to where you are going to live, help understanding the registration for classes process and the strategy of 1st and 2nd pass, plus you will make your 1st friends at Calso. Plus your parent(s) will get a lot out of it too. And on top of that some school spirit to take home with you.

Hey so does that mean if we sign up for the 2nd date that the classes we want to take are mostly going to be full?!
So what if we don't at all then by the time we choose classes we're screwed!
I mean wow $400 for two people for an orientation...?

i doubt the 2nd date will lead to all the classes being full... i think one should start worrying when calso reaches late phase 1/ phase 2.

i signed up already and if you are pell grant recepient you get discounts(big) and you can do it at socal for even less w/o spending so much.

mine is $55 in socal and $100 for Cal though socal is 1 day only but all i need is the class signup. XP

soo basically...its mainly for choosing classes. but since im doing fall extension, that isnt that important to me. sooo...anything else worth the $200 for me..?

urd0rkk: yes, there's calso in so cal but its ONLY for Pell Grant Recipients.

Beatchick: well, in so cal it's a 1 day thing plus its at El Camino College. hard to figure how the dorms would be included in calso at ElCo. but no, if you go to calso at cal, its 2 days though, and you will have to provide your own transportation and housing for the stay. Thats why I didnt want to go at all at first since it would be like a $1000 round trip all included for my mom and I. I clearly cant afford that!!!

Freshman programs
The two day CalSO Freshman Programs begin with check-in from 7:30am to 8:45am on the first day and end at 1pm on the second day. Sessions are offered in June and July. The fee to attend is $190 and will be billed to your CARS account. Information includes:

Academic advising and assistance
Course enrollment (up to 10.5 units) through Tele-BEARS
Student service presentations
Interaction with staff and faculty
Campus tours
In-depth discussions of campus issues
Personal insights about Cal from current undergraduates
Freshman dates/college sessions
You will only be able to sign up for dates represented by your school or college.
