Majors

Ok, I have several questions. But before I ask them, let me introduce myself. I'm Sree Yarlagadda. I want to be either a cardiosurgeon or a neurosurgeon later in life. Actually, I don't even know if I want to be a surgeon, may be just a brain or heart specialist. Anyways, what major would be the best if I want my profession to be something with the heart or the brain? I wanted to take Pre-med but when I called the college I want to go to, they said I should consider taking something else. So should I just stick with Pre-med since it covers the heart and the brain, or should i chose a better major?

Firstly, you should know that there is no such "Premed" major at berkeley. There's different majors in biology, such as MCB (mollecular cell biology) or IB (integrative biology) which cover some neuro and physiology. If you're interested in a science major, you can look into those bio majors, or others like PH (public health), psychology, or cognitive science. There's a neurobio track in MCB, but there's no neuroscience major in berkeley. There are different classes you could take though, that would cover those topics. Also, if you want to be premed, you should look at the required courses (ususally includes 2 years Chem, 1 year bio, 1 year calculus, 1 year physics, etc.) Good luck deciding..
