so i've been hearing that you should stay away from standard triple rooms, and i ended up in one. so why exactly are they so bad?

OTHER THAN THAT, I think people dislike triples because you have less privacy and, perhaps, a bit less space per person than you might in a double? But based on the website I'm not sure that's actually true.

If they're really that bad, we'll suffer through! The things we endure just to get a college education (SIGH.)

I got a triple in Clark Kerr (which will give me the approx square footage of a double in the units), but I think in general it can be hard to have so many people in such a small space, especially since a lot of people aren't even used to sharing rooms. Also, for girls, the closet space is totally inadequate, especially in the units, where both closets combined are about the equivalent of one normal sized closet. I don't know if this is an issue for boys, but girls can also get really irritable and impatient with people if they have to be around them all the time, which could get a little overwhelming with so many people around. I will tell you the unit triples are really small though, so if you need more than like 5 square feet, you will want to spend as much time as possible in the library or outside of your room.

I stayed in a triple during CalSo. Honestly, it's not that bad. It might seem a bit roomier now because the room is basically empty (no other furniture, etc) but there were three closets, and there's plenty of room for a mini fridge, microwave, tv (haha), etc. There are also two desks. One is a long desk, but there's enough room for two people. The third desk is half the length of the long desk, which is fit for one person.
Triples are also more social, so more fun. Plus, what if you hate your one roommate in a double? At least in a triple, you'll still have that other person, cus what are the chances of you hating both (or vice versa), right? hahah

I got a triple in Unit 1 and I'm ok with it. I stayed in a triple during CalSO and it was pretty darn small but as I don't plan on staying in my room all day, I don't really mind. I just hope I get easygoing roommates who don't freak out about messiness because in a room that small, there are going to be piles of stuff everywhere just to be able to cram it all in.

i think i lucked out. i got a double in unit 3. from what ive read around the interwebs a triple isnt all that bad. more people to be social with and if you get along with both of them then you can end up having a lot of fun. but yea i will admit id be worried about space =/

Dorming in a triple is actually pretty standard. There is nothing wrong with this type of housing.

The only downfall is that it's well...3 people in a room. It may get crowded at times since the rooms are already small enough as it is, but you get to save some really needed money since Berkeley hiked up fees for the 2009 school year.
