Questions about French

I'm an incoming int'l student and would like to have some French classes in Berkeley. I started French two monthsd ago, and recently I've been studying French Mon to Fri in a language school with high intensity. I'm defin going to pick French as one of my 4/5 choices of course selection, but my concern is how hard is French 101(I didnt't chack up the name). What books are professors using as textbooks? How far will the 101 go in terms of grammar stuff?

I'm thinking if I can cover the 101 class beforehand and pass the placement test, maybe I can save some time for other classes. Since I'm in vacation right now, I really would like to do some work to smoothen my start in Berkeley.

So............anyone who's taken French in Berkeley? Or those who took French in high school and have an idea of this issue?

thx a ton!
