One in a Million

haha just kidding... anyway, I applied EA to BC and was wondering what you think my chances are to CSOM. Also, if possible, chances to Georgetown, ND and UPenn.

White, Middle-Class Male, Public School in CA
Rank: 8/359, so top 2%
GPA: 3.896 UW
SAT: 2170 (660CR, 710M, 800W)
SATII: 700 Literature, 700 Math 1
APs: taking 5/7 offered at school, got a 4 on AP English Lang., 3 on Chem, taking Calc., Bio, English Lit. this year
Further Education: taken BYU Ind. Study classes online and taking French at community college next semester

Awards: 2 national writing awards, 3 or 4 county poetry awards, a work ethic award

Hook: Started my own international clothing business in 10th grade (so CEO, Founder, etc.), have my own website for it, am getting product into local retail stores, have already sold a lot online; really random, but I also breed, raise, and sell chickens and pheasants, have done it since 7th grade.

Work Experience: I work 20 hrs. a week at a local hotel and 5 hrs. a week for as Editor-in-Chief for a food company (9, 10, 11, 12)

E.C.s:
4-year varsity starter in tennis and water polo (9,10,11,12); best record in tennis (9,11); v water polo captain (11,12); water polo mvp (11)
school newspaper sports editor (12)
teacher's assistant and tutor for AP Chem (12)
asian culture club (11,12): co-events coordinator (11), vp (12)

Recs: Probably pretty good or great, haven't seen them

Essays: very unique, about my work experience and businesses

Negatives: haven't done too much community service, probably more.

I would say in at BC. I am not familiar enough with the other schools to help. Good luck!

Dear WPOLO8 : Your numbers and background are right in the sweet spot for both BC and Georgetown. Visit both and make your decision based on the difference in environment and programs. Notre Dame will be academically second to either BC or Georgetown.

As for UPenn, Wharton was extremely competitive last year (moreso than UPenn itself which hit all time low acceptance rates) and the acceptances at the Ivy's are to some extent a random draw.

Although not one of your schools, let me share a story that was told to me by a Yale Interviewer and Alumnus last year. Getting from 20,000 applications down to 4,000 is a very simple process based on scores, scholastic achievement, extra curriculars, and essays. Getting from 4,000 down to 1,800 is somewhat random since so many of the applications start looking similar once you get to the top ranked applications.

I think starting your own business makes you a great candidate. I would say that you would get accepted at BC and I know it is extremely difficult right now to get into Wharton, but it is worth a try for someone like you. As far as I know, Georgetown, although a great school, doesn't have as good of business school as BC or UPenn.
