If it is an acceptance packet, the packet will be a very large envelope. Otherwise, I presume that denial letters are sent in a typical "small envelope".
I hope they send them out early, since I travel then and will be out of town by Xmas. Don't really have anyone that can check mail..... Do they post it online as well?
They will definitely have decisions to you about a week before Christmas. They don't send them all out on the same day, so when you hear that others have already received theirs, don't be worried. DD knew that several people had already heard, and her fat envelope didn't arrive til about 3 days later! We think it might have been done alphabetically.
Why don't they post decisions on line as well? And then they could send the decision by snail mail for the people who submitted a paper application. Wouldn't that work easier?
My daughter received her letter on December 20th and it was postmarked on December 17th (from Boston to San Francisco). It was a large envelope and when it was held up in the light we could read through the envelope that it said "Welcome to the Class of 2013" on a folder. It was a large envelope, but not a thick packet!!
Hope this helps and good luck to everyone applying early action. By the way, she is a happy freshman on the Newton campus and absolutely loves her classes (CSOM).
neogop~I guess every school has its favorite method! All three of our kids applied to a variety of schools, and there were many others that used mail instead of an online notification, including Stanford, Michigan and Notre Dame. It's been a couple of years since our youngest applied to college, so some may have switched to online now since then, but they all do their own thing!
