My Agora portal says that I'm missing my "Student IRS 1040 Tax Return."

...What is this?? I thought I didn't have to file anything since I didn't make any money!

Money will be the deciding factor between the two schools I have left: Emory and BC. Neither have given me my financial package yet because while I turned in my FAFSA and CSS really early, I turned in my other documents really late. Any chance I'll receive my financial aid before the May 1 deadline? :/

Contact the financial aid office, there is probably a form you need to fill out. My daughter earned no money but was required to fill out and send in a non-filing form to move her FA file forward through the process. Good Luck!

Dear dlrkgml : There is a form that needs to be filed with your Boston College paperwork made available from the BC Financial Aid web site that declares that you did not file a tax return and that you were not required to file a return. Check your financial aid application form as this is part of the checklist.

Unfortunately, BC's finaid instructions are not perfectly clear.... Complete the form you can find on the attached link and fax it in.

I called in the financial aid office today because I have the same issue ( a pending student income tax) . The lady told me not to worry because they will start working on those issues after May 1 st. She said that it's a paper to fill out and they will let us know about that later on in the coming month.

Btw I had printed the form but decided to wait because of what she told me!

Have any of you received your FA award yet?

I was missing all the forms (1040, W-2, etc...) except for the FAFSA and CSS so I sent them in after a got my acceptance package. I still have nothing on that tab and I've faxed it to them twice already.

Dear helicoptermom24 : I would not delay in sending the student income tax disclosure form based on "what some lady told you". If she was wrong, what recourse will you have? Best advice was to have completed ALL of the documentation by the appointed date and getting the missing/late materials submitted immediately.

Dear Black.Ice. : If you were missing everything except the FAFSA and CSS, this implies that you did not actually complete the Boston College application for financial aid. On the cover page of that filing, you will find the check list of all the forms (1040s, W-2 proof, and so forth) that needs to be completed. I seem to recall that the deadline for this material is fast approaching.

Dear All : There is a truth to getting this paperwork done early while the "pot" of money is still the largest. While Boston College has a fairly good view as to what to expect the total aid requests to total, your best strategy would be to be early in line as opposed to late.

    @scottj

Thanks so much. I will send the form in. Better to be safe than sorry!

To All: Are there any additional forms to fill out after your financial aid package says "stafford loans and perkins loans"? And if so when is it done?
I asked the financial aid office and they just tell me that those forms are done later in August.

What is the application for financial aid? In my tab it says they got my FAFSA and CSS but still need:
Student IRS 1040 Tax Return 2009
Custodial IRS 1040 Tax Return 2009
    Custodial W-2 Form 2009
    Student Business/Farm Supplement 2011

But I don't have any tax return, nor do I own a business. My dad does but both of them said it doesn't matter because they do the same tax form or something. What should I do?

Dear pbbuff : This forum is available to offer help, ideas, and strategies on a variety of topics, but it is truly distressing to see a question like yours which demonstrates that you have not done any of the financial aid groundwork. A simple search on the Boston College web site yields the following material :

    Financial Aid Application, 2010-2011 : http://www.bc.edu/offices/stserv/meta-elements/pdf/1011undergradaidinstrandapp.pdf

Financial Aid Base Page : Financial Aid - Boston College

Undergraduate Financial Aid Details : Undergraduate Financial Aid - Boston College

Important Note : Note that the 2010-2011 Deadline is April 15th, 2010

The website always asks for a Business/Farm supplement for my student at BC, and I just print one and fill it out saying that he does not have a business or farm.

so if all I'm missing is my student tax forms (& I didn't have any income) I won't get a financial aid package? I did send in my nontax filers form along with my parent w2s & taxes but in agora it says I'm missing my taxes
  • bluebayoubluebayou Posts: 21,555Registered User Senior Member
    wasony:

it can take a couple of weeks for agora to update, so it depends when you sent your forms in. And, just to add to the paper crush, those returning students have an April 15 deadline to mail their forms in, so I'm guessing the scanner/processor is working over time to digitize the paper.

Don't forget, Monday is a MA State holiday.

just to clarify, I sent in my nontax filers form in the same envelope with my parents taxes & w2s. Agora says they received my parents taxes & w2s but not my own taxes
