We spent a day in Boston touring Emerson and BoCo, and we were blown away by the warm and welcoming vibe we got at BoCo! As we waited in the lobby chatting with a student from Admissions, I mentioned my D's clarinet and a clarinet teacher stopped to ask if my D was a prospective instrumental major (don't I WISH!). Our tour guide was very personable. We passed two freshmen in the dorms and they greeted us and asked about my D's major...when she said MT, they both cheered! My D sat in on a dance class...you would expect the teacher to be friendly, but several of the students in the class stayed after to talk with my D. We went to see Zanna Don't in the city last night, featuring several BoCo students, and wound up sitting next to a BoCo voice teacher. And a group of kids recognized my D from the tour and stopped to talk with us!

Emerson is a state-of-the-art facility, smoked glass and shiny chrome, while BoCo is cozy and a bit frayed at the edges. Both have outstanding MT programs to be sure. But our experience at BoCo was so warm and friendly, so WELCOMING...we just loved it.

My daughter is a freshman at BOCO this year and she loves it. I will tell you she is extremely busy and never thought it would be as difficult as it really is but really is loving life. She has told me on several occasions how glad she is to have chosen BOCO. The kids are so very friendly. They were at the initial visit, they were at the auditions and now the same thing when we showed up for her to move in. Sometimes I think BOCO gets a bad rap because it's not a "regular" school however, if you want to be in musical theater, why not go somewhere that focuses on just that while also gaining the same degree. And, my daughter had a 3.5 grade average, etc... so not top notch grades but surely not bad and did get into some academically challenging schools but not all in the MT program. Anyway, just thought I would let you know that what you saw is really what you get! Good Luck to your daughter!
