Hello community, I'm curious what you think my chances are for the MLK Scholarship and/or ED II at Boston U.

Location: California
School: Top notch, one of the best/most competitive public schools in California

1960 SAT
600- Verbal
660- Math
700- Writing

SAT II French- 500, Lit.- 480

3.76 Weighted GPA
3.69 Unweighted

Class Rank: Top 25-27%

AP's: English, Hnrs. Eng. 11 (weighted as an AP)
Others: Hnrs 10, French 4, Physics

Teacher Rec: Fantastic
Counselor Rec: Average to good
Essays: Good

EC's:

- International Education Outreach, Inc. (Founder, President, Vice Chairman)
* Founded a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that distributes primary education scholarships to slum children mainly in India. We've raised thousands of dollars and are fully functioning with a pro-bono lawyer, webmaster, board of directors, etc.

okay ill respond! i think you'll get in ED 2. the EC's will make you a 'competitive candidate'

"Who’s Who Among California High School Students" and "National Honor Roll" are essentially fake awards that students go maintain a C or more average receive so their parents will spend the money on the 'recognition'. if i were you id never have included those in a college resume.

im applying for the mlk scholarship too. my grades, rank and scores were higher and i had more AP's in my courseload. pretty similar extracurriculars-- im glad to see others care about the world and what is going on! you have just as much chance as others applying.. i assume that is about 250 applicants.

yeah, i didnt pay any money for any of the 'who's who' or the 'national honor roll' and the only mention i made on the app was simply one line in a list. so it was barely even mentioned, and not at all emphasized, because i do agree with you completely about the prestige, or lack thereof.

Cool app~ I have no clue what kind of chance you have as I am applying currently as well... but I was wondering what city you are from in Cali. I am in Glendale, CA. Are you anywhere nearby?

i have no clue about mlk (im not that good at the whole community service/leadership stuff), but i think ur pretty much a shoo-in for ED II
