College people IN GENERAL graduate with lots of debt. It's the way college is now adays. I found BU very generous with need based fin aid in my experience, but every situation is different.

BU and Debt

I have not found BU to be helpful to it's middle class students. If you're broke, you get good aid, otherwise you must carry massive amounts of debt and the low interst student loans are not enough. Work study is a joke because it doesn't pay enough and jobs off campus pay much more but are not flexible. Students who have parents with more than kid in college don't get much extra consideration even when parents have to split their resouces, so you have to come up with the money yourself. 50 grand is year is out of control. Even if you get $30K in scholarship/Aid, you're still looking at graduating with nearly $100K in debt once you tack on interst. By the way, pay your loans as you go along to keep the interst down.

That's the stupid way the system is set up nationally. We should as a nation subsidize kids going to college but instead we penalize them.

i'm pretty sure a ton of people can sympathize with not being able to go to a college because you/your family couldn't afford it. maybe you should lighten up. i consider myself really lucky that i got a decent package from BU, especially considering I've talked to a number of people who i would say deserve it more than I do(but got nothing). the expense of college is simply ridiculous, and it makes it almost impossible to attend a reach school even if you get in.

where theres a will, theres a way. Whining about how your sister goes to BU, and you are one of 4 kids, and every other school gave you 6K is lame.

Yes its a shame BU gave you no money, but lots of people get no money. Get over it- I'm not gonna coddle some CC poster because they feel they deserve tons of money. I was offered 0 money and I will make it work.

Your question really is relative to the individual. I know some people who will graduate without debt even if they didn't receive financial aid because their parents make a lot of money and can pay off tuition without any problems. I also know some people who are taking on a load of debt. The only thing that really matters for you is if you have a good financial aid package.
