hmmmm, not all people will share your academic record... BU still rejects a fair percentage of students each year; and that makes admissions a legitimate concern for those who are new to the process, especially if their transcripts, essay, test scores, et cetera, are not, say, stellar. I just want to warn you about speaking so... freely (I mean, you can if you like... I would just feel really bad if I read your post after getting a rejection letter.. frankly, you'd look elitist and make me feel stupid, if that were the case.)

You might want to think a little more about others before making such sweeping generalizations as "BU isn't even hard to get into." There has just got to be less offensive and more effective ways of communicating that message. But that's just my opinion...

Yeah there were people with like 1300-1400 SATs, great grades, and presidents of clubs that were getting waitlisted and rejected. I mean, I know its not like Harvard or anything to get into, and I agree that it is impossible to tell whether these people will get in or not, but its kinda mean to say that its not hard to get into, especially to all the people that didnt get in. The chances posts are really annoying sometimes, but thats what this website is kinda for. Last year when I was applying I posted just to hear some positive feedback to help the waiting time go by faster lol. I bet when you were applying to BU you werent thinking that its so easy to get into.

Especially when the difference in scores and profiles of accepted applicants -- once you are talking the top 50 or so schools--- isn't huge so in this day and age any school can be challenging for admissions. I think NO ONE was accepted from the BU waitlist this year.
I'm sure the person was just trying to relieve the OP's stress about it.

CGS allows for an overall greater number of acceptances but for SMG, etc. it can be competive and for the University Professoprs Program. 7 yr Med Program, or University Scholars program your profile will likely look the same or better than any Harvard student. Still, typically you have a better shot at most large schools than similar smaller schools.

Yeah, I'm inclined to think that the entire process is nothing more than an educated crapshoot. Heck, I got a 1220 on the sats, a decent but not amazing unweighted gpa (3.3-3.5 IIRC), a few clubs, and I still managed to get in. Early decision rocks. : )

BU would never deny a 1400+ with ECs with good grades. For people who didn't get in, they probably didn't have enough ECs or Volunteer Work. I am not going to write anymore before i offend anyone else! X(

Actually, I do know someone who had 1400+ and was rejected...though it's because they putzed around on the application.

But I do have to agree that the chances threads (in general) are a bit much, as I don't see how anyone on these boards would know any better than the applicant as to their chances. No one on here works for admissions. Those of us who are currently attending can't really tell you much, either, as we have no idea what it was abour our applications (or those of the people we know) that got us in the years we applied, let alone what would get you in now.

It would be nice, though, if the people who post chances threads would at least post their intended major/school, as they always seem to leave out that vital piece of information.

How much EC's do you really need? Lets say I got a 2000+ SAT with a 3.8 unweighted/ 4.0 weighted GPA. I already have about 3-4 EC's. Is that going to be enough? Or do I need 6-7 like some of you people on this forum have?

I personally think BU is a great school-#56 in the country as of either 2004 or 2005, and the freshman class is supposedly one of the strongest classes that BU has had. If there are about 3200 colleges in the country, BU is in the top 2%...for lots of hopefuls, it might seem intimidating, and it can be hard to get in. My three friends who are at BU-1 had the same kind of credentials as me, 1320 SATs, 3.8 or 3.9 unweighted, top 10%, and lots of ECs and volunteer work. Another was #2 in his class and had tons of ECs and SATs in the 1400s. And another was in the top 4%, 1400s on SATs, and tons of ECs also. For those who are providing chances threads, like I did during the application process, this can seem a little scary when applying to BU, which is the choice college for some of these prospective students. I am proud to be going to BU, and I wish all of you prospectives the best of luck. Keep posting the chances threads, and we'll keep responding and trying to make the wait time easier on you until you now exactly where you will be next year or the year after.
