Studio Art

This is my first CC post. I am a California community college student with a 3.9 GPA, significant intern experience, and a strong art portfolio (drawing and painting). I have done a summer program at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Although MICA has an outstanding painting program, I would prefer to study art in the context of a LAC. I plan to apply for admission as a third year transfer to (some of) the following colleges. I will be majoring in studio art (painting), but also have an interest in psychology and sociology and their integration with art. I would appreciate any insight you can share with me concerning my college selections. Are any of these schools particularly outstanding in studio art? Are there any that I should eliminate from my list for any reason including lack of a quality studio art program? Is transfer admission into any of these schools virtually impossible? I'd like to get my list of 10 schools down to about 6 or 7. Thanks for your help.

Smith College has a very strong studio art program and is likely to be welcoming to a cc transfer. . .

torasee, that's good news because I like what I know about Smith, but I am curious what makes you think Smith might be welcoming to a cc transfer.

Smith has a long history of reaching out to the nontraditional student, especially those who do not follow the conventional path. The Ada Comstock program (geared to older woman who did not go to college after high school), for example, has been around for years.

And here's what Smith says about transfer students in general:

While many colleges and universities consider transfer applicants only after the first-year class is selected, Smith reserves a number of places especially for transfers because we believe they enrich our community. Every January some 20 to 30 transfer students arrive at Smith while another 80 join our classes each September. They come after having completed at least one semester at any of a variety of institutions, including four-year private and public colleges and universities, community and junior colleges, and international institutions.

I love Bowdoin but it (and many of the other schools on your list) is just not interested in transfer students (something like 4-6 per year).
