I have been accepted to Brandeis with a very nice financial aid and scholarship package. I have been accepted to other schools and am trying to decide. Could someone tell me about the social life on campus. I am not a drinker but enjoy a party. I am on the quiet side.

Also I am interested in a physics major and would love to hear what the physics curriculum is like. Also I am intriqued with their dual degree program with Columbia. Is anyone involved in that. If so is the work load huge?

I know the dorms are not great but what are the odds of getting a triple?

Congratulations on your acceptance and the financial aid!

The odds of getting a triple are highest for freshmen but probably still less than 50%. Also, there are two kinds of triples - one type that was designed as a triple. which has two rooms - one with all the beds, the other with all the desks - and the other, which is a double room with an extra bunk and desk. Those are a bit tight, but lots of people survive them every year and go on to a little more spacious housing the next year.

Brandeis is not a "big" party school; that is, it's not a school with many huge campus-wide parties, though there are a few every year. There also ar some dances every year. Most parties are held by smaller groups, from a whole dorm or a large number of students in a quad to parties held by a group living in a suite. you can be quiet and still go to parties with people you know, or want to get to know.

My s is also trying to decide. They offered a huge merit award. We are going to see it tomorrow. He is also a Physics major, and I aware of the joint program with Columbia for possible dual major in engineering. We have visited several Physics depts. If this one is on par with the others he will go to Brandeis. It was his first choice, out of nine he applied to. The merit award got our attention.

Where are you finding this official "open list"?

On the admissions web page, there is a link on left to the event tomorrow. From there, you are taken to another page, from which you can download the schedule for the admitted students' day. On that schedule, there is a list of 'open' classes to visit. Only one physics class is listed, an all-afternoon lab.

In response to mtnest2b, I'm sorry I havent been online as we were in Waltham visiting Brandeis. We got there Wednesday and met with the Astrophysics Professor, Dr. Roberts. He spent two hours with us. My son was convinced this is the place for him. We were worried that the small size would hinder the quality, but we left feeling it is a major research center that embraces undergraduate involvement in research. We didn't go to the lab, or the morning physics lecture, there was just too much going on. We did a campus tour, and met with some current students. I sent my $500 deposit in today. Lets p-m to continue a dialogue.
