Invited Applicant

I got an email from Brandeis today saying that my guidance counselor's recommendation and high school transcript were missing, and to send them before December 15th via fax, identifying myself as an early decision applicant.

I used the invited applicant invitation to save money on the application fee, and nowhere did it say that this was early decision, etc. They did not request/require an early decision agreement either.

Did anyone else get a similar email? Am I still considered regular decision? My main concern is the binding agreement with early decision--I can't guarantee that I can pay for it.

Thanks!

"I can't guarantee that I can pay for it."

Don't worry about that side of it; if they don't offer you enough FA, you just decline (after an appeal) and apply RD elsewhere:
Quote:
Should a student who applies for financial aid not be offered an award that makes attendance possible, the student may decline the offer of admission and be released from the Early Decision commitment.

I would call the admissions office directly about this. My D got that expedited invite also, and decided to apply using the Brandeis application itself, since doing it on the common app didn't have a spot for this. Maybe you did apply using the Brandeis app, I don't know. She hasn't submitted her app yet, though.

Don't worry, the expedited application (due by December 15th) is not binding. Early Decision applications (with due dates of November 15th for ED I and January 1st for ED II) are both binding, but if you aren't applying Early Decision and haven't signed an ED agreement, you don't have to be worried about a binding agreement. SkittleRose, it's possible that there was a typo in the e-mail sent to you, but if you're just applying through the expedited application and not Early Decision, you don't need to worry about your decision being binding.

Sincerely,

Thank you so much for clarifying, Mr. Wong! That makes me feel a lot better now.
