Gap Year?

If I end up attending BYU I want to take a year off between high school and college to volunteer and travel. Does anyone know if BYU lets people defer enrollment for reasons other than missions?

No they don't.

This is from my acceptance thing

Can I defer the first semester I am admitted?

We are expecting you to attend for your admitted semester. You cannot submit a
Continuing Student Deferment for the first semester you are admitted. However, if you
are going on a mission during your initial semester, you can submit a Missionary
Deferment. That form is available at admissionsforms.byu.edu.

Thanks. Do you think I could go in the fall, and then take off winter semester?

Just to save the paper work, I reccomend going fall and winter and then spending your summer's abroad. After all Fall and winter only go from the end of August to the middle of April so you'll have most of April, May, June, July, and August to travel. Personally I'm taking my gap year right after college and before graduate school. I'm think of doing peace corps.
