I'm sure that ice cream social is just as awkward as the ice cream social at the beginning of freshman year. You have to embrace the awkwardness and bask in the glory of free ice cream.

When you apply, do you have to submit your SAT scores?

^Don't think so... Most high schoolers haven't taken the SAT yet.

Emergency question! I am applying RIGHT NOW for Summer@Brown but I'm confused on what they mean by educational reference. Does that mean that I have to put in one of my teacher's information? Also, it says you need to send in your transcript. Do we have to mail it in ourselves or does my guidance counselor mail it in for me? Thanks!

Hi! I plan on sending in my application really soon so I really appreciate it if someone could help. Thanks so much! I'm just confused about the educational reference. Do I just write down the name of of one of my teachers? Thanks!

@writertobe2293, do you have to pay extra for the trips on the weekends? My parents are wondering how much money I should bring... Thanks!

Yes you do. If you're going on one of the trips that Brown has planned then you don't have to pay for transport there or back, but everything else when you get there comes out of your pocket. You can also plan something else with a group of friends, like going to Boston for the day instead of the planned trip. If you do, then you have to pay for everything. Or you can just stay on campus if you want.

I did Summer@Brown last year and it was an absolutely amazing experience. Honestly, it isn't that hard to get into as long as you have decent grades. I stayed on the campus for 4 weeks because I took a Creative Writing course. The dorm I stayed in was called Perkins, and it is known to be the farthest/worst/smelliest dorm building on campus, but it was actually alright. The other dorms are nicer and closer to classes.

Making friends is very easy at this program. The RAs are wonderful and you all get to know one another on the first day. There's also an ice cream social where everyone in the program well...eats ice cream together! I thought I was going to have a very hard time transitioning to college life, but everything went smoothly.

The course load varies per class. In my class, creative writing, we read an entire textbook and wrote a lot of different assignments, as well as a 10+ page final! Honestly it didn't take up all of my time though. I still had time to socialize.

The trips on the weekends are awesome. They are optional and you have to sign up. I went to Newport and Boston and they were both free, except for what you have to pay for when you do go there. Honestly, I only spent my money on food and a little shopping here and there. It wasn't too bad.

@unicornrainbow- Yes that does mean you put down a teacher. I think they email your teacher or something, but I can't be too sure. My memory is fuzzy!

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask me!

^lslove, thank you so much! I am really excited for this program although it's going to be my first time away. Just curious, how much money should I bring?

I used a debit card and took cash out when I needed it. It depends on a lot of things. I went for four weeks and spent about $300 (possibly a little more) on food, movies, shopping, and other little things here and there. A lot of people spent a lot more and a lot of people spent less. The debit card was nice because I didn't have to carry around a lot of cash with me. I really recommend it.

Someone asked that before but... do I have to mail my transcript myself, or do I have my guidance counselor do it ? What about the "grade translator" for internationals ?

The way I did it was that I went to my guidance counselor and asked him to give me an OFFICIAL copy of my transcript in an envelope. I then mailed it myself. You can also just ask your guidance counselor to mail it for you if you give them the correct address. Your guidance counselor should also have the "grade translator" to mail with it. Ask them to put it in the envelope as well.

I submitted my application today for a program but I want to do another program as well. Do I have to apply twice and send in my transcript twice? Thanks!

You definitely do not have to apply twice and send in your transcript again. I THINK that once you're accepted, on the website you used to fill out the application, you sign up for the classes you want to do and it will work out that way.

Once you're accepted, I would call Summer@Brown and make sure that is what you're supposed to do.

Okay, thank you so much! I want to do a course at the Leadership Institute and also a course at the regular pre-college program but I will ask them just to make sure.
