Official Brown Chance Thread

All these loose Brown chance threads are hard to follow, so it'd be nice to make a combined official one.

To make the thread useful and functioning...
Here are the rules:
1. You MUST chance the person who last posted his/her stats and asked to be chanced (just so everyone gets what they're looking for )
2. Chance anyone else whom you want to help out
3. Please post with a stat format similar to the one below:

Objective:
  • SAT I (breakdown):
  • ACT:
  • SAT II:
  • Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0):
  • Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable):
  • AP (place score in parenthesis):
  • IB (place score in parenthesis):
  • Senior Year Course Load:
  • Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.):
Subjective:
  • Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):
  • Job/Work Experience:
  • Volunteer/Community service:
  • Summer Activities:
Other[list]
[*] State (if domestic applicant):[*] Country (if international applicant):[*] School Type:[*] Ethnicity:[*] Gender:[*] Income Bracket:[*] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):

Have fun everyone

Do you know why the chance threads don't usually work? Because the people "chancing" have no idea what they're doing. None of you are involved in the Brown adcom, and even those of us who attend Brown cannot decide who would and wouldn't be a good candidate by looking at just this raw data. From talking to a mentor of mine, who is involved in the admissions process, I've come to realize that grades and scores count for very little in the process. The top things they like to look at are your essays and teacher recommendations, which you obviously cannot provide here.

Most of the people who respond to chance threads are applicants themselves who are posting chance threads. As you can imagine, none of the chances really have any useful information and a number of them have a lot of misinformation, so I would warn you not to take any responses here to heart.

@ bruno14, way to be a downer. I think everyone realizes that if someone says you're not going to Brown or you are going to Brown it doesn't really matter, because it's all up to the admissions officer. Chance threads are just a good place to discuss what to improve on and have some fun. I do agree though, don't take whatever anyone says too seriously here.

@william95. I think you have your ECs set, but your objective stats are a little low. Try taking Math2 over and something else for your SAT2s, aim for 750+.

Wendeli: what I don't like is people who decide whether or not to apply to a school based on chance threads like these. Maybe you wouldn't make your decision that way, but I have seen students do it here. These threads also tend to perpetuate the stereotype that all you need is good grades and test scores, which is very untrue.
