Can you use graphing calculators in Brown's Calculus exams?

Our teacher told us that some schools don't allow students to use calculators on exams. For example, Virginia Tech.
I'm talking about any test/quiz/mid-term/final exam and even homework (although nobody would really know if you cheat on hw)

when i took it in 2005 it was allowed for homework but not exams.

Most professors don't want to get into a long list of which calculators are allowed and which are not (some have more advanced features that may provide an unfair advantage), so in my experience calculus (and linear algebra) exams are wriiten to be able to be completed without the use of any calculators.

So profs do teach how to solve problems without a calculator, right? It seems that you would just need a calculator to check answers on the hw then.

Calculus, by its very nature, does not require computation of the sort that you need to calculator to do. You don't need a calculator to take a derivative, do you?

I've taken math 09 and 10 and we weren't allowed to use calculators on exams. My friends in honors multivariable calc (math 35) weren't allowed to use calculators either.

Only for homework.They weren't allowed at the exams. I have taken two calculus classes at brown - Intermediate and Multivariable.

My instructor for Math 18 (multivariable) told us that calculators aren't used for any math classes at Brown. I'm not sure if that's completely right, but there's typically a no-calculators policy, at least for calculus classes. I remember using my good old TI-89 to check an answer if I wasn't sure if I had evaluated an integral correctly on a homework problem, but not for anything else.

I'm currently a freshman at Penn State, and no calculators, even four function ones, are allowed on my calc exams. I am assuming it is similar at Brown and most schools in general. You can use them on homework if you really want, but in the end you need to know how to do problems without them. With that being said, they won't give you problems on exams that require the use of a calculator.
