He's got Maths800, Physics800, Chemistry760, and...

He is my friend and here is his status:

He is an international student from China with relatively good EC. Besides those subject test scores, he's got 2210(C720,M800,W690) in SAT Reasoning Test. He is now ED Brown but he asks for a laaaaaaaaaarge amount of financial aid.

He has registered the Nov. SAT Subject Test for Lit. and Bio but he has not prepared well yet. So he is considering pushing it until December. Since the traffic cost is huge for mainland students to take SAT test in HongKong, he wants me to consult you if more than three SAT Subject tests will bring extra boons to his application for Brown; otherwise he will give up the two tests.

What do you think? The subject tests he had taken were all science. Do you think a Lit. test result will significantly enhance his chance? I repeat, he asks a huuuuge financial aid in ED!

Someone who understands how Brown looks at International students would need to comment on your specific question, but as a generality, multiple 800s iin Math/Science are not uncommon in the science applicant pool for the top colleges. I don't think Bio would add much to his already strong science profile, and given his R and W scores, I don't know if the SAT II Lit will show anything new either (but it's not a test I'm familiar with relative to how it correlates to SAT I R and W scores). If a practice SAT II Lit shows about the same outcome as his SAT I R and W, I can't imagine it will add anything.

This is just my take on it, from 50,000 feet, as it were.

They look at your top two/three SAT II scores, so unless he does better on those than on chem, no.

Since Brown is not need blind for Internationals, it is hard to know if admissions criteria are different.

Otherwise, I'd agree they will likely not add much value--the school say they only take the top 3 scores, I think. The Lit one could potentially add value with a top score, but I had heard the Lit is one that is hardest to score tops on, harder than the advanced maths. His SAT is good, especially for esl.

My daughter has several international student friends that seem to all be on quite good financial aid.
