you can (buy.return within 10 days.rebuy * infinity) books from the bookstore? so you'd never actually have to buy the books, just borrow them by said method to do homework, etc?
I know it's possible in theory, since I see no regulation against that, but do they really never catch on/not care/care?
I know people do it once or twice during finals or midterms to study, but would a whole semester of this absolute cheapness work?
You could do that if you wanted I'm pretty sure, though they may cut you off if they abuse the policy. Most stores that have a liberal return policy will reserve the right to cut you off if you abuse it.
That being said, the books should be on reserve at the Rock.
About halfway through semester they ship all the textbooks back to whence they came, so it'll only last so long. Better off just buying your textbook online.
